Having been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), Cleveland's JACK Casino and Thistledown Racino will both reopen their doors at 6 a.m. on Friday, June 19 -- the first day casinos are permitted to reopen in Ohio.

In reopening, both JACK locations have implemented new policies and procedures in adherence with government mandates and CDC guidelines, as well as additional safety protocols deemed essential by the gaming company, including a 50 percent capacity limit.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome back our guests and our dedicated team members. We know it is imperative that we provide an environment where everyone can feel safe and comfortable,” said Chad Barnhill, Chief Operating Officer of JACK Entertainment. “Our commitment to our guests, team members, and all those who visit JACK has driven our decision to go beyond the directed safety measures to ensure we are doing all that we can to make JACK a great place to work and play during these unprecedented times.”

In order to ensure the safety of guests and employees, the JACK Cleveland Casino and Thistledown Racino will be following the following safety measures:

  • Social distancing, with capacity, limited to 50 percent capacity and reconfigured gaming floors to ensure spacing.
  • Mandatory facial coverings for all table game players and all employees. Complimentary masks will be available at both locations.
  • Increased vigilance and frequency of sanitization of all surfaces with hospital-grade disinfectant.
  • Increased training and education for all JACK team members.
  • An increased use of contactless technology, including a Virtual Players Card, for a contactless experience while using Jack Entertainment's Mobile App as their ClubJACK rewards card.

During a coronavirus briefing Friday, Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jon Husted announced that casinos, racinos, amusement parks and waterparks will be able to reopen in two weeks, on June 19, under specific guidelines issued by the state.

There might even be some hope for concert fans:

Outdoor theaters will also be able to reopen once they submit a reopening plan to the state, DeWine said.

The PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Dublin that has been slated for July 13 through 19 can even take place with guidelines and mandates in place, according to the Ohio governor.

This comes shortly after the Buckeye state had announced a June 10 reopening for places such as “movie theaters, zoos, playgrounds, recreation centers, indoor sports facilities and museums.”

Lt. Gov. Husted mentioned that Ohio is still working on addressing how to make the parts that are not open safe, particularly sports.
